Our alpaca throws are sourced from alpacas that roam freely in Patagonia and the Andes. The luxurious softness and lightness of baby alpaca makes it one of the most sought after fibers in the world. To protect themselves from the Andes’ extreme temperatures that can reach up to - 4°F, the alpaca’s wool grows long and thin and contains microscopic air bubbles that maintain its body heat, accounting for the unrivaled thermal qualities alpaca is famous for.
Our blankets are handmade using ancestral techniques by artisan communities living in the Andes mountains of Argentina and Peru. Our weavers, 85% of which are women, have been working hard to preserve the traditions, knowledge and skills that they have inherited over generations. There has been a steady migration in recent years of young people to cities in search of jobs. For a community that is deeply tied to their land, culture and animals, this migration has been devastating. By partnering with these local families, we are offering the young villagers a viable and respectable way of earning a live while fostering the traditions and talents of their people.
